In actual fact, you can't print more than 50 pages in full color with the original cartridges - Is there anything that the printer manufacturer won't do?

Oh yes, one thing. They do away with the IC chip implants as compared to Epson or Canon, so you could keep on using our XXL refillable cartridge to refill and yet have an accurate ink level.
